What is a FOOD HUB?
(Sometimes also called a Food Collective)

Food Hubs connect small farmers & producers to buyers (wholesale & consumers) through a centralized distribution site or online marketplace.
A food hub, as defined by the USDA, is “a centrally located facility with a business management structure facilitating the aggregation, storage, processing, distributions, and/or marketing of locally/regionally produced food products.”
Food Hubs:
  • encourage collaboration between farmers, consumers, restaurants, schools, hospitals, universities, and more!
  • strengthen food security
  • support our local food economy
  • create awareness for better nutrition and health

Why Buy from a Food Hub?
  • Most are farmer owned and operated!
  • Farmers and producers are able to set their own market value prices.
  • One distribution location for farmers means more time to grow your food.
  • Improves farm producer access to markets through aggregated sales, one-stop online shopping, and delivery options.
  • Get the freshest food directly from farms and producers.
  • Seasonal shopping options means you are getting the freshest, tastiest, and most nutritious food available for your needs.
  • Buy from multiple local farms and producers in one location with one easy payment.
  • Strengthens our local food system and food economy.
  • Reduce our dependence on fossil fuels with streamlined, hyper-local transportation and distribution.
