Community Outreach
SSCFLT is actively recruiting individuals who can commit between 5 and 10 hours of monthly outreach support. Community Outreach Volunteers will help with the following:
Administrative Support
You can also support the Trust by providing office and administration assistance. The ideal candidate can contribute 4-5 hours a week in our office located at 2918 Ferguson St SW, Tumwater, WA 98506, in the office of the Thurston Conservation District. Volunteers can provide support with the following responsibilities:
Committee Membership
Committee members contribute approximately 5 hours of most months of the year to one of our Board committees, with flexibility in the nature and scope of this commitment depending on the individual's interest and availability. Currently, our Board is informed by the following three committees:
Short-Term Opportunities
Distribute the Direct Sales Farm Map
You can select delivery locations on your typical route of travel or take a drive to other locations in the community. The Farm Map is a signature project of the Trust which connects South Sound residents with opportunities to buy directly from and support our local farmers.
Be Part of an Event Team
For 2018, we are seeking volunteers to provide day-of support for the following events:
Publicity, Graphic Design, and Media Production

Ongoing Volunteer Positions
Community Outreach
SSCFLT is actively recruiting individuals who can commit between 5 and 10 hours of monthly outreach support. Community Outreach Volunteers will help with the following:
- Monthly tabling engagements, including the Olympia Farmer's Market and Combined Fund Drive events
- Support at annual events: Annual Meeting (March), Farm tours (June-August), Farms Forever (October)
- Writing material for our bi-monthly newsletters and Facebook page
- Donor engagement & fundraising
Administrative Support
You can also support the Trust by providing office and administration assistance. The ideal candidate can contribute 4-5 hours a week in our office located at 2918 Ferguson St SW, Tumwater, WA 98506, in the office of the Thurston Conservation District. Volunteers can provide support with the following responsibilities:
- Maintain and organize the Trust's administrative files
- Data entry
- Prepare for meetings
- Answer the telephone and direct inquiries
- Working on individual projects such as the Farm Map, communications, and special events
Committee Membership
Committee members contribute approximately 5 hours of most months of the year to one of our Board committees, with flexibility in the nature and scope of this commitment depending on the individual's interest and availability. Currently, our Board is informed by the following three committees:
- Membership/Outreach/Development Committee: Perfect for writers, event organizers, people with web skills or people who like to do direct fund raising
- Finance Committee: A great fit for individuals with interest in budget development and monitoring
- Farmland Preservation Committee: Excellent opportunity for farm owners, farmers and others with knowledge of the needs land needs of local farmers

For 2018, we are seeking volunteers to provide day-of support for the following events:
- October 20, 2018: Farms Forever Annual Benefit
- Support needed day of from 12 pm - 10 pm (shifts of varying sizes); event takes place from 5-8
- Located at the Lacey Community Center, 6729 Pacific Ave SE, Olympia, WA, 98503
- Volunteers needed to help setup the silent auction, registering guests, setting up the dining room, serving guests dinner, bartending, and cleanup
Publicity, Graphic Design, and Media Production
Are you a creative individual seeking an opportunity to share your skills with a good cause?
- Graphic Design: You can support our team by designing our annual publications, flyers, and programs. Develop print materials to build out your portfolio, and let the community see your work!
- Photography: We are always seeking images to include in our publications, and to document the amazing work our partners are doing on their farms. If you are interested in visiting local farms to photograph the work of the seasons, or if you are available to photograph our special events, we would love to have you join us!
- Media Production: Their are amazing stories throughout the Trust community -- from the commitment of our staff and board, to the landowners, farmers, and donors who support our work. We are strongly encourage anyone with interest in a media project, especially students, to contact us if they are interested in producing a video to promote our work.

South of the Sound Community Farm Land Trust
A Working Board: In practice, the Board of South of the Sound Community Farm Land Trust (SSCFLT) has been a working Board. As the Land Trust acquires properties and the management tasks increase, an executive director will need to be hired. Until then, the task of building the organization is the responsibility of the Board. Board members head the working committees, supervise the part-time staff and make all the necessary decisions.
The culture of our organization and Board is very hands-on and collaborative. We gravitate towards working on a grass-roots level with collaborative community initiatives and organizations.
Formal Board meetings occur on the second Thursday of each month, usually as a pot-luck dinner at the home or office of one of the Directors. Working meetings of the various committees tend to meet on Thursdays of the off weeks.

Consult the By-Laws section of the website http://www.communityfarmlandtrust.org/bylaws.html for a detailed description of the Board’s formal composition, process by which Directors are, and the Board’s mandated responsibilities.
In brief, to become a Director of the Board, a person needs to self-nominate or be invited by the Nominating Committee or designated Board member to apply and must also:
