Did you know that Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has an Avian Protection Program? Did you know that there are Osprey at the Scatter Creek Farm and Conservancy?
The wonderful folks from PSE came down to the farm and installed deterrents on the power poles and then erected a separate pole with a nesting platform. The Osprey are already taking advantage of the new site to build their nest and we are hoping for babies later this Spring.
Not just a working farm, a conservation site as well!
Of course, because this is a working farm Collin and Genine and all the folks at Kirsop Farm have been busy preparing for the season. It may be wet, but there are plants in the ground, the lambs have had their kids and the new chickens have arrived! In the greenhouses seeds are being started, microgreens are being harvested and transplants are awaiting their turn to head outside.
We are happy to announce "Keep the Change" at the Olympia Farmers Market.
You can now donate change (or more!) at several of the Olympia Farmers Market Vendors. Everything that you donate goes directly to South of the Sound Community Farm Land Trust to support farmland preservation in Thurston, Mason, Lewis and Grays Harbor counties.
So hustle down to the market to grab your veggies, gifts, fruit, plants, proteins, baked goods, art and more - every purchase supports the vendor, the market and now can help preserve local farmland. It doesn't get much easier than that!
WHY? You might be asking yourself why you should donate your change to this cause. . .
South of the Sound Community Farm Land Trust works to preserve Farm Land (and its water rights) so that it will remain in farming for future generations. With your help we protect land and make it affordable to beginning farmers.
