Our success depends on the support of people like you, who are committed to the future of agriculture in the South Sound.
Since the mid-1950s, Thurston County alone has lost over 75% of its working agricultural lands. In the last five years, the acreage of actively farmed land in the county has dropped nearly in half. That’s more than 35,000 acres – an area greater than the cities of Lacey, Tumwater, and Olympia combined. We live in one of the fastest growing areas of Washington, and if we don’t act now, we could lose the last of our precious remaining farmland.
At the same time, affordable, secure land tenure eludes many farmers. The high costs associated with buying and owning land present barriers to many who seek to make their living in agriculture.
The South of the Sound Community Farm Land Trust is working to ensure that our local farms don’t disappear. We engage in farmland preservation strategies, community partnerships, and public educational outreach to increase opportunities for farms and farmers to flourish.
You can join in this work by becoming a member of the land trust. As a member, you’ll help preserve farmland, create a future that embraces community access to local foods, and promote affordable land and homes for farmers. You’ll also receive regular updates on our work and invitations to special events throughout the year.
